SBC Waste Solution had a blast working with Cradles to Crayons Helping Get Kids Back to School. With the help of over 700 volunteers, the event served more than 50,000 children with new backpacks, while also distributing school supplies and back-to-school clothing to children living in poverty in Chicagoland. We really enjoyed contributing to such a wonderful cause.
As a garbage company in Chicago, we love doing what we can to give back to the community. Cradles to Crayons helps raise awareness to major issues, including childhood poverty and clothing insecurity. One in three children in Chicago live in poverty right now. Many of these kids do not have shoes or clothes that fit them, which can lead to bullying and self-esteem issues. Children from low-income families often lack basic school essentials, like notebooks, pencils, crayons, etc.
Cradles to Crayons collects items through grassroots community drives and corporate donations. Volunteers, then, package the donations in their warehouse, aptly named The Giving Factory. These packages are later distributed to low-income families.
We love that Cradles to Crayons strives to help give kids the confidence and the resources to succeed in school. Without appropriate school supplies and clothing, students have an unfair advantage, which makes it harder for them to break out of the cycle of poverty.
We believe that all children deserve to have all of the resources they need to thrive and that small acts of kindness can make a big difference in the lives of the more than 12 million children who live in poverty in the US.
