Besides the usual curbside pickup service, SBC also offers a backdoor collection service. This service involves waste pick-up from the back or rear door of a single-family home. However, it’s available only if the local municipal contract permits, and there might be an extra charge associated with it.

If for some reason your waste hasn’t been collected by 6:00PM on the service day, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Just give us a call at 312-522-1115 to report the missed pickup.

We understand that some items are just too big for your regular carts or containers – think mattresses or sofas. That’s our bulk item service steps in. Depending on the terms of the municipal contract, these bulky items may require stickers, or pre-payment, or can be picked up for free. Our e-waste collection services vary depending on the municipality’s contract. We offer a special collection for electronics, as they need a different approach compared to regular trash or curbside recyclables. Some e-waste collections might need you to put in requests during certain collection months. No worries if you missed your weekly pick-up. We can arrange for a special pick-up service for you. This would incur a $35 charge to your account. You can schedule this by giving us a call or by contacting us through our website.

Weekly curbside collections typically last anywhere from an hour to three hours depending on the size of the city Households usually get about 30 minutes to place their materials outside before collection begins and this time decreases as collection goes on; normally ending at 8:00 AM or 9:00 AM (local time). For businesses that do not provide private pick up, recycling and trash day follows similar guidelines although dumpsters are usually kept much longer due to higher volumes produced by commercial properties.

What is a Processing Fee?

What is proration?

Because services are pre-paid, if you start service after our billing date, your first invoice will show a pro-ration from the day you started to the date of the next billing date.

What is an “Administration Fee”?

The Administration Fee is established at $5.00 per invoice and is charged only when your balance is past due over 60 days. Customers who pay their bills in a timely fashion will not be charged this fee. If you have additional questions, please contact Customer Care at the telephone number listed on our website.

Why am I getting charged a City Permit Fee?

It is a fee from the City of Chicago that will appear on a bill every 3 months (January, April, July, and October). This fee started in April of 2009.

What is the “Fuel/Environmental Recovery Fee”?

We work hard to contain costs. However, we are unable to control fuel and environmental expenses. The Fuel Recovery Fee and Environmental Recovery Fee are charges to recover these costs and achieve an acceptable operating margin. The two separate fees appear as a single invoice line item called “Fuel/Environmental Recovery Fee.” The amount of the environmental fee is not represented to be a direct offset of S.B.C. Waste Solutions’ actual environmental costs to service any individual account. Instead, the fee is intended to address S.B.C. Waste Solutions’ overall costs, which may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Commodity value, processing, handling and related costs
• Engineering
• Permit and license compliance
• Landfilling / Transferring
• Employee training and certification

• Title V Air
• Federal, State, and Local Regulations
• Environmental Insurance and Surety Bonds
• Tire disposal
• Battery disposal
